 Welcome to Focused Pilates

"IN 10 SESSIONS YOU WILL FEEL THE DIFFERENCE, IN 20 YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE AND IN 30 YOU WILL HAVE A WHOLE NEW BODY" Joseph Pilates

Welcome to Focused Pilates

I love Pilates. I love how it makes me feel, and how I can use it to make other people feel. Life can be hectic for us all and our lifestyles may not always help our bodies feel our best, but Pilates helps combat the stress and strain on our bodies and in our minds. Learning the correct Pilates techniques can maximise our physical potential, relieve stress, fatigue and tension in the body, restore good posture and joint mobility and improve our overall sense of well-being and I believe that all people regardless of age, size, shape or ability can enjoy the benefits of Pilates. Sometimes a class does not always suit us; we may have specific needs or feel uncomfortable being in a class environment and so private sessions are an excellent way of introducing Pilates into your life with the added benefit of a tailor made exercise routine developed for your individual needs.

Who is Pilates for ?

Picture
Pilates is for people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes. To make the most of my sessions I use a Pilates Reformer which provides support for beginners and people with certain medical conditions, as well as resistance for people looking to challenge their body. There are 100's of different exercises that can be modified and adapted to suit a person's individual needs. Pilates complements other forms of exercise and sports by developing whole body strength and flexibility at the same time as reducing the risk of injury. As always, before starting any exercise programme it's advisable to seek advice from your GP or a health professional if you have any health concerns, such as a pre-existing condition or injury.

What is the Reformer?

The Pilates Reformer is the most popular piece of Pilates studio equipment. With its system of pulleys and springs, handles and straps, the apparatus can provide either resistance or support, depending on your needs. The Reformer helps to establish core stability and postural alignment while working the arms and legs in a range of movements.
There are many exercises that can be performed on the Reformer, ranging from basic moves to a more challenging advanced workout. It is not only a good way of helping you to get the most out of your Pilates session, it also enables people with a limited range of movement or injuries to safely exercise and restore good mobility and movement to their body.

Pilates for Horse Riders
Picture
As a keen horse rider myself I have a great understanding of how our horses, and as a consequence our riding ability, are affected by the strengths and weaknesses of our own bodies. The potential of a good partnership between horse and rider can remain unfulfilled for as long as these weaknesses remain in place. To help overcome longstanding issues and make the most of our equine friends I offer ridden postural assessments that are a necessary starting point to tailor a personal programme that can help improve not your riding, but also your eventing scores if you take part in competitions.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss this further.
